Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing at JWJ Park

Join us on Monday, February 12th from 12pm to 2pm in James Weldon Johnson Park to celebrate the 124th Anniversary of the first recitation of “Lift Every Voice and Sing” by a group of 500 students in 1900. The song was written by our namesake James Weldon Johnson and set to music by his brother, J. Rosamond Johnson.

Councilman Rahman Johnson will welcome us and give remarks for the occasion. The Ritz Theatre and Museum will share interesting stories about LaVilla and the Johnson Brothers’ heritage, plus Food Trucks, updates from Lift Every Voice and Sing Park, and a Live at Lunch performance from Park favorite, Joe Watts who will also lead us in singing Lift Ev’ry Voice and Sing.
