The Jacksonville Public Library wants to invite you to a Lit Chat Interview with
#1 New York Times Bestselling Author Kwame Alexander at the Main Library on January 10, 2023, at 7 PM.
Kwame and debut artist/sculpturist Dare Coulter will be interviewed by Rahman Johnson about Kwame’s book An American Story, a bold children’s picture book that explains American slavery through the voice of a teacher who is struggling to help her students understand its place in history.
Alexander and Coulter’s An American Story helps educators and parents/caregivers start the conversation around slavery. Told through lyrical writing and stunning illustrations, the powerful, multilayered narrative and images that Alexander and Coulter have produced will take educators, parents/caregivers, and young people from fireside tales in an African village, through the unspeakable passage across the Atlantic, to the backbreaking work in the fields of the South, to eventual emancipation.
